Brooklyn Coffee Shop
The frame is simple so the comedy can be unhinged inside it.
About the project
Brooklyn Coffee Shop is Pooja Tripathi's comedy series, starring the worst baristas in Brooklyn. I came on as director and editor, and we've been building it together ever since.
Because the visual frame is so simple, the comedy can go completely unhinged inside it. Pooja writes scripts that go straight at late-stage capitalism, performative identity, post-election anxiety, and somehow make them feel like a conversation you've already had this week.
I direct, set the editing style, and run a team of editors. Being both director and editor means I can let things breathe on set and find the episode in the room, then shape it in post. The improvised moments are usually the best ones.
Eighty episodes in, the series has 420K followers on Instagram, celebrity guests, a Webby Award, and the attention of New York's biggest ad agencies. We're still just indie filmmakers making things we find funny.
